Gracemary Smulewitz

Rutgers University

Gracemary Smulewitz is the Head of Distributed Technical Services at Rutgers University Libraries.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Romance Languages from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Library Science from Rutgers University.  Ms. Smulewitz has worked with serials for over 26 years and the latest 10 years with electronic resources.  Gracemary heads the Distributed Technical Services Department which has realigned operations to meet the demands of the electronic and print environment for all subscriptions and continuing resources.

   

Gracemary chairs the Technical Services Core Working Group at Rutgers Libraries, which is responsible for developing system wide workflows for holdings and serials related work and projects.   She also co chairs the E-book Working Group at Rutgers  which helps to define policies and procedures for the acquisition and maintenance of e-books.   She is also a member of the VALE Electronic Resource Committee and the VALE E-Books Working Group,  both representative  of the state wide academic consortium. She has chaired Rutgers committees that evaluate acquisitions, funding and implementation of both print and electronic resources.  Ms. Smulewitz has been active in the American Library Association ALCTS Division, the North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG) , the SIRSI/Dynix User’s Group and the Virtual Academic Library Environment of New Jersey (VALE).  She has presented at SIRSI/Dynix User Group conferences, NASIG, VALE and the Charleston Conference on topics of MARC holdings for serials, usage assessment, ERMS implementation, e-books, as well as serials workflow analysis for print and electronic material. Gracemary is currently a member of the NISO e-book SIG.
