32nd Annual Charleston Conference Issues in Book and Serial Acquisition

Rod Widdowson

UK Access Management Federation for Education and Research

Rod Widdowson is a systems software engineer with over 25 years experience.  He has been working in support of the UK Access Management Federation for Education and Research since its inception and has been a Shibboleth developer for over 5 years.  During this time he has concentrated on the usability issues that affect both the administrators and the oft neglected end users of Federated authentication systems.  This includes ease of use for administrators (installation and cost of ownership) but his main interest are the usability concerns for the end user, particularly those associated with IdP discovery in large scale federations.

Over the past 2 years he has been closely involved with a REFEDs project to provide national HE federations and their customers with guidance on how to make "IdP discovery" a natural part of the login process rather than a barrier to successful access to e-resources.
