Roberto Sarmiento

Roberto A. Sarmiento is the current head of the Northwestern University Transportation Library. Previously, Roberto worked as the director of the Panama Canal Commission Technical Resources Center (library and special collection) and has been a consultant for US, Panamanian and Japanese government agencies on transportation information matters.

Roberto is an active speaker on the subjects of transportation information, acquisition, digitization and management, presenting in the US and internationally. He has received several awards for his work on behalf of transportation libraries, his graduate school and the library profession. He is the current chair of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Library and Information Science for Transportation Committee (ABG40) and former chair of the TRB Information Services Committee (B-0002) and the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Transportation Division.

Roberto holds a Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from Dominican University and a BA in geology from St. Louis University.
